The Busy Mama’s Guide To Reducing Stress

Sometimes it comes out of nowhere, and other times you feel it building up. No matter what, stress will find its way into your life. It’s a natural part of being a busy working mom. When these moments come, it’s easy not to know what you can do right now to feel less stressed. That’s why I’ve created this list to help you manage those stressful times. Take a look below if you’re feeling stressed out and wondering, “what do I do now?”

Meditate

Take time to meditate. Meditation doesn’t have to be an hour. It literally can take you two minutes, but take some time every day to sit and be still with yourself. There are great apps available on your phone. Headspace and Calm are two popular apps you can utilize. Take some time to meditate daily, especially in those moments of stress.

Deep Breathing

Our minds and bodies are connected. Taking a moment to practice deep breathing can help alter your state for the better. Set an alarm for 5 minutes and breathe in and out as slowly as you can. Aim to get at least a count of 10 on the breath in and 10 on the breath out. On that tenth breath, let out a big sigh.

Move With Intention

Some people call this exercise. It doesn’t have to be a full-on sweat. It could be yoga or an easy stretch. Stretching your body will help activate your circulation and decrease the stress your body is holding on to. Your body needs to release stress just like your mind does. Suppose you can get in a full workout that is great too. What’s important here is not the intensity level but rather the act of moving.

Focus on the Outcomes

Take some time to think about the future. What is it that you want out of life and imagine having achieved those goals – whether it’s a promotion, having a close relationship with your kids, or having a family vacation. Think about your big goals and the things you are working towards rather than focusing on the current chaos.

Take Action

Take a moment right now to move with intention. If you only have a minute, that is fine. Take a minute to move with intention. Stretch your body right now to begin releasing stress. Now commit to yourself you will move with intention daily – whether it’s a one minute stretch or a 5-mile run promise yourself right now you will add moving with intention into your daily practice.
