Let’s talk about being positive. You know that I believe when moms have more joy, the world has more joy – our families, our communities, our places of work, everyone experiences more joy and are better when we’re better. 

So I want you to be better. And one of the easiest, cheapest, and non-time-consuming ways to have more joy and to feel better is to have more positive thoughts. 

You might think, “Oh, this isn’t for me. Thinking positive things is for athletes, big executives, politicians, and celebrities.”

No, mama, this is for you and it will change your life. It will help you to have joy even when you don’t think it’s possible. 

There’s a lot of different things you can do to reframe your thoughts. I talk about them in a lot of my other articles, but I’m going to give you my simple trick for having more positive thoughts. This one is truly the easiest and quickest shift that you have to make. 
The one very simple thing that you can do to get a lot more joy in your life and to feel a lot better is to focus on what you can do rather than what you can’t do.

To have more joy, to feel better is to have more Positive Thoughts.

Let me give you three different examples. 

Say you’re starting a weight loss plan. 

A lot of us, when we start a weight loss plan, myself included, think, “Okay, I can’t eat ice cream. I can’t have all these cocktails. I can’t lay on the couch.”

I start thinking of all the things that I can’t do. That just makes me feel sad because I can’t do all the fun things. But what I can do is what I really should be focusing on. What I can do is I can take more walks. I can eat more salads. I can eat more grilled chicken (I love grilled chicken!). 

Focusing on the things that I can do helps me to have more joy in what I’m actually doing, even in my weight loss plan.

Let’s take this to work. 

Maybe you’re not having the best experience. To have more joy at work, focus on what you can do at work. Rather than focusing on your weaknesses, focus on your strengths. 

Don’t focus on the things that you’re not good at. If you’re not good at Excel, don’t sit there and dwell.

Instead of dwelling, spend the time thinking about the things that you’re great at. Are you great at public speaking? Are you great at communicating over email? Are you great at inspiring folks? Are you great at putting together an awesome PowerPoint? What are you great at? What are your strengths? Focus your energy on that. 

When you focus on those things that you do well, you’re going to feel better.

Let’s take it into your life now.

In life, there may be some things that you want and you tell yourself why you can’t have that.

“I can’t have it now. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to have it.” 

Focus on what you can have now. Say you want a new car like me right now. I am craving an off-roading vehicle that fits four people and can hold a car seat. I can’t have it right now. That’s okay. What I can have right now is a cleaner car because I got crumbs everywhere. 

So I’m focusing on what I can have. I can have a cleaner car. I can still have some fun almost off-road adventures in my little SUV. So that is what I’m going to focus on – the things that I can have, rather than the things that I can’t. 

Focus on what is positive, what provides good energy, what moves you towards the things that you can do that will provide more joy. 

It’s going to help you to feel better. It’s going to help you to have more positive thoughts. It’s going to help you to enjoy your life more and ultimately to thrive.

Focus on what you CAN DO and what you CAN HAVE
