2 Self-Care Tips for Moms On Staying Connected

It is so important to take care of yourself. When you don’t, you can get frazzled, feel irritable for no reason, and even burnt out. This impacts not just you but your entire family. Even though self-care is so important for moms, it can be hard finding time to take care of yourself.  Yet, being a grown woman, you are the only one on the planet responsible for taking care of you. You have to find the time. You have to make it a priority. The great part about taking responsibility for your self-care is that, you not only get closer to living a life you love, you also teach your kids that it is important to take care of themselves. 

Self-Care Through Staying Connected

A very important part of self-care is staying connected to yourself and those you love. Knowing yourself and having someone to reach out to are fundamental in getting through the toughest times. And so, taking time now to get and stay connected will help ensure a less stressful and  more joyful future. 

 How to Stay Connected To Yourself: 

Breathing Exercises   

Practice meditation or take a moment every once in a while to consciously breathe. If they idea of meditating seems to woo-woo, try this simple breathing exercise. 

  • Set an alarm for 60 seconds to 5 minutes
  • Sit with your thoughts and breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth as slowly as possible (try counting to 8 for each inhale and exhale)
  •  Don’t pick up the phone
  • Don’t open up the tablet
  • Just sit with you and breathe 

Have A Chat With Yourself

Another great way to stay connected to yourself is to regularly check-in and have a chat with yourself. Take the time to ask yourself questions about what you are interested in  and what is going on in your life. You can simply do this in your head or start a journal. Here a few ideas to help prompt you: 

  • What you are grateful for
  • What are you loving in life right now?
  • What is exciting for you coming up right now?

Stay Connected To Family and Friends 

Make sure that you stay connected to your friends and family. It’s important to have and maintain adult relationships outside of your work and marriage.  Here are a few ways to stay connected to the adults in your life: 

PIck Up the Phone

Call them, pick up the phone even if you only have five minutes. If you don’t want to be one the phone for a long time simply state that at the beginning of the call. For example you can say: 

“Hi, I only have 5 minutes but I was thinking about you and just wanted to give you a quick shout to let you know.” 

Then you can easily bring up your time constraint and keep the conversation short if needed. 

Text From the Heart 

Text something meaningful such a photo or a positive memory.  For example you can text: 

“remember that time when XXX that was so great”

Be Present and Truly Engaged When In Person

Ask deep and intriguing questions, then look them in the eye as they give you the answer

  • What’s inspiring them in life right now?
  •  What challenges are they going through?
  • Where do they want to be two, three, or  four years from now?
  • Have you had any major mindset shifts?

Take Action and Connect With Someone Today 

Self-care is so important for working moms. A huge part of taking care of yourself is making sure that you are grounded and connected.  Staying connected to yourself, your family and your friends, will help to provide you a solid foundation during the tough times. That foundation provides you stability and peace. When you make the time to stay connected you feel much better.
