Even though self-care is so important for moms, it can be hard finding time to take care of yourself.  Yet, being a grown woman, you are the only one on the planet responsible for taking care of you. You have to find the time. You have to make it a priority. The great part about taking responsibility for your self-care is that, you not only get closer to living a life you love, you also teach your kids that it is important to take care of themselves.

And so, taking time now to get and stay connected will help ensure a less stressful and  more joyful future.

Practice meditation or take a moment every once in a while to consciously breathe. If they idea of meditating seems to woo-woo, try this simple breathing exercise.

  • Set an alarm for 60 seconds to 5 minutes
  • Sit with your thoughts and breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth as slowly as possible (try counting to 8 for each inhale and exhale)
  •  Don’t pick up the phone
  • Don’t open up the tablet
  • Just sit with you and breathe

Have A Chat With Yourself

Another great way to stay connected to yourself is to regularly check-in and have a chat with yourself. Take the time to ask yourself questions about what you are interested in  and what is going on in your life. You can simply do this in your head or start a journal. Here a few ideas to help prompt you:

  • What you are grateful for
  • What are you loving in life right now?
  • What is exciting for you coming up right now?

Then you can easily bring up your time constraint and keep the conversation short if needed.

Text From the Heart

Text something meaningful such a photo or a positive memory.  For example you can text:

“remember that time when XXX that was so great”

Ask deep and intriguing questions, then look them in the eye as they give you the answer
