3 Tips for Getting Back on Track After the Holidays (Plus a Bonus!)

First off, welcome back to the real world after the holiday season. Doesn’t it feel like you were just living your best “no schedule” life, soaking in all the cookies, late nights, and family fun? And then— bam—the new year hits, and suddenly, the routines are calling your name again.

I get it. The post-holiday slump is real. It can feel like trying to climb Mount Everest just to get back into a rhythm. But don’t worry! I’ve got you covered with 4 tips that will help you ease back into your schedule without completely losing your mind.

1. Start Small – One Thing at a Time

Okay, Mama, I know you’re superwoman and all, but you don’t have to take on everything all at once. Trust me, it’s way more effective to ease into things than to try and do it all in one fell swoop.

Pick ONE thing to focus on each week. Whether that’s your workout routine, your kids’ bedtime, or getting back to healthier eating, commit to one thing at a time.

Pro tip: If your kids’ bedtime got a little loosey-goosey over the holidays (been there, done that), start there. A consistent bedtime makes a huge difference for everyone in the house—especially YOU. When your little ones are well-rested, everyone can breathe a little easier.

2. Declutter Your Space – Clear Space, Clear Mind

I don’t know about you, but after the holidays, my house looks like a wrapping paper bomb exploded. And while I love the holiday decor, it’s time to say goodbye to the festive chaos and reclaim your space.

Take a few moments each day to declutter—starting with all that leftover wrapping paper, random gift boxes, and anything you don’t need to keep out. A tidy, organized space will help you feel more grounded and ready to tackle the week ahead.

Decluttering isn’t just for your home, either. Clear out those “mental clutter” spots—like that long to-do list. Freeing up both your physical and mental space can do wonders for your energy and motivation.

3. Plan Your Priorities – Three is the Magic Number

Here’s a little secret: not everything has to get done in one week. In fact, trying to do it all can actually slow you down. So, let’s keep it simple.

Each week, pick three things to focus on. That’s it. It could be anything from work-related tasks to personal goals or even home projects. Just make sure that they’re things you can realistically accomplish in that time.

Write them down, block out the time in your calendar, and commit. Focusing on 3 priorities helps you stay on track without getting distracted by the hundreds of other things that might pop up.

Clear your space, clear your mind. Decluttering after the holidays helps your energy find its flow again.

BONUS TIP – Show Yourself Some Grace

Here’s the thing: getting back into a routine after the holidays isn’t always easy, and sometimes, life throws you curveballs. So, if things don’t go as planned (because, let’s be real, sometimes they won’t), cut yourself some slack.

It’s okay to not be perfect. You’re juggling a million things, and there’s no need to add guilt to the pile. Give yourself the grace to adjust at your own pace. The fact that you’re trying counts for a lot, and you’ll get there!

Final Thoughts

Getting back into your routine after the holidays doesn’t have to be a battle. Take it step by step, prioritize what matters most, and, above all, be kind to yourself as you ease into the new year.
