Why Women Need to Rethink Productivity, Especially Before Burnout Hits

Hey there, mama. 👋

Let’s be real: if you’re a working mom trying to “time block” your way out of burnout… you’re not alone.

I used to believe that if I could just manage my time better, everything would fall into place. I had my planner, my calendar hacks, my color-coded systems. I was chasing that mythical moment when I’d finally feel “on top of it all.”

But here’s what I wish I’d realized way sooner, not just for my career, but for my life:

Time management isn’t the secret to success. Energy management is.

Yes, time is finite. We all have the same 24 hours in a day. But energy is what drives performance, and if your energy is off, it doesn’t matter how many hours you carved out for that project, meeting, or workout. You simply won’t be at your best.

You can’t pour from an empty cup and you sure can’t lead, create, or thrive from one either.

“If you show up with the right energy every day, things can change so quickly and in the direction you want them to.”

You Don’t Need More Time. You Need a Reset.

Let me give it to you straight:

  • You will never time-hack your way to the next level.
  • You will never calendar block your way to a burnout-free life.
  • You will never Google “best productivity apps” your way into a sustainable career.

You need energy and you need a way to protect, reset, and reinvigorate it.

If you’ve ever tried to work out while hungover, you know what I mean. All the time in the world won’t matter if your energy is drained. That’s not woo-woo, that’s biology.

Quick Energy Resets That Actually Work

When I was managing a team and hustling toward the C-suite, I finally stopped trying to out-schedule my exhaustion. Instead, I started building micro-habits into my day that helped me reset my energy in 5 minutes or less.

Here’s what worked for me (and might work for you too):

  • Stretching – Quick desk stretches or hallway lunges. I work from home, so yes, I stretch like a weirdo in my office. Worth it.
  • Short walks – Around the house or around the office floor. Movement resets your nervous system and brings your brain back online.
  • Focus blocks – Actual, sacred, do-not-disturb hours.
  • Social hits – A quick voice note to a friend, sending a meme, or a 3-minute “Hey, I’m drowning, send caffeine” text.
  • Music – One power song can change your mood and mindset.

What works for you might be different, but make a list. Three to five energy resets you can pull out on demand when your tank is low.

You Deserve More Than Just Survival Mode

This isn’t about hustle. This is about harmony.

If you’ve been feeling the drain (especially with Q4 and the holidays creeping up), it’s time to stop pretending that the solution is “more efficient scheduling.” It’s not. The solution is creating an energy strategy that actually works with your life — and doesn’t leave you ragged at work, at home, and everywhere in between.
