Hey, mama. Let’s be real: as a working mom, you’ve got a lot on your plate, and sometimes it feels like the plate is spinning on one foot while you’re juggling 10 other things. You’re showing up for meetings, soccer games, and everything in between. But here’s the deal: you don’t have to do it all. At least not all the time.
That’s where the SMS Method comes in. It’s a simple framework I created to help working moms like you focus your time and energy on what actually matters, so you can stop feeling stretched thin and start feeling like the rockstar you are.
And with Women’s Equality Day coming up on August 26, it’s the perfect time to remember: your time, your voice, and your vision for your life are valuable. Let’s honor that by getting intentional.
So What’s the SMS Method?
S – Shine
M – Manage
S – Surrender
It’s not just a catchy acronym. It’s a mindset shift. Here’s how it works: for every area of your life, work, home, and relationships, you ask yourself three key questions:
- Where do I want to Shine?
- What do I need to Manage?
- What can I Surrender?
Let’s walk through it together.
Work: You Are Meant to Shine
- Shine: What’s the work that lights you up? Maybe it’s leading that new project, mentoring a rising star, or pitching that bold idea. Focus your best energy here. This is your growth zone.
- Manage: These are the must-dos that keep the lights on. Answering emails, submitting reports, don’t let these tasks steal your sparkle, but do what needs to get done.
- Surrender: What can you delegate, automate, or even let go of entirely? Maybe it’s that committee you joined out of guilt, or weekly check-ins that could be monthly.
Remember: Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should.
Parenting: Choose Presence Over Perfection
- Shine: Want to be the mom who always makes it to bedtime stories or dance recitals? Focus on those magic moments that create connection and memories.
- Manage: Laundry still needs doing, and snacks still need packing. These tasks are necessary, but they don’t define your motherhood.
- Surrender: Let go of the Pinterest-perfect birthday party pressure or the need to say yes to every school volunteer ask. Your value as a mom isn’t measured in cupcakes or carpools.
Relationships: Real Over Routine
- Shine: Deepen your bond with your partner or a bestie. That could mean a date night, a heart-to-heart, or even a check-in text that says, “Thinking of you.”
- Manage: Keep communication open and maintain routines that support connection, like a weekly debrief or morning coffee together.
- Surrender: Drop the resentment or outdated expectations. You don’t need to “do it all” to be loved. You just need to be you.
Reclaim Your Time, Reignite Your Joy
The beauty of the SMS Method is that it helps you say yes to what matters and a loving no to what doesn’t. You’re not failing when you surrender something. You’re choosing you, and that’s powerful.
✨ This is your permission slip to be intentional, not perfect.

Celebrate harmony over balance. Allow the various facets of your life to coexist, to intertwine, and to complement each other.
