A Simple Trick To Build Momentum Towards Your Goals (Even When Life Gets Crazy)

It’s goal season—and if you’re like me, you’ve probably set some big dreams for yourself this year. Whether it’s writing that book, launching your side hustle, or finally mastering that work-life balance, we all have goals that light us up inside. But here’s the thing: with all the balls we juggle—kids, partners, work, cooking, cleaning, and everything else in between—it’s easy to lose sight of those goals.

I get it. I’ve been there. I’ve had goals that I was so excited about… and then, just like that, life swoops in and they get buried under the pile of laundry, endless emails, and the never-ending “to-do” list. And that’s a problem.

Let me tell you why:

There’s nothing worse than lying down at the end of the day and realizing you didn’t make any progress on your dream. You start feeling guilty. You wonder if you’ll ever get it together. And it starts to feel like your goal is slipping further and further away.

Sound familiar?

Well, I’m here to share something that has helped me break free from this cycle—and I think it can help you too. The answer is simple: Write your goal down, and put it where you can see it. A LOT.

Let me explain…

The Power of Visibility

A couple of years ago, I had a huge goal—I wanted to write a book. I was super excited, so ready to make it happen. But as the days went on, I kept getting sidetracked. My kids needed help with homework, my husband needed attention, and work was, well, work. It was too easy to let the book idea slip to the back of my mind.

So, what did I do? So, what did I do? I wrote my goal down, in the present tense as if I have achieved it and I made it visible.

I took 5 post-it notes and wrote the same thing on each:

“I am a published bestselling author.”
“I wrote a book.”
“I am a published bestselling author.”

Then, I stuck them everywhere.

  • One on the bathroom mirror
  • One on my office desk
  • One on the fridge
  • One on the dash of my car
  • One on the inside of the pantry door

Every time I walked by one of those post-its, I saw my goal staring me in the face. It was impossible to forget. And honestly? It forced me to make progress because I couldn’t ignore it.

Now, I know what you might be thinking: “But I can’t just put sticky notes all over my house!”
And hey, maybe post-its aren’t your thing. But there are so many ways to keep your goals front and center—whether it’s setting reminders on your phone, writing them in your planner, or creating a vision board that you hang where you’ll see it every day. The key is to make it impossible to forget.

Why This Works

Here’s why this simple trick is so powerful:

  1. It keeps you accountable. When you see your goal every day, it forces you to think about how you can take action, even if it’s just for 5 minutes.
  1. It strengthens your belief ability to achieve.  Writing in the present tense helps you to subconsciously believe you can achieve the goal. Which helps you take more action toward attaining it.  The more you see it, the more it becomes part of your reality.
  2. It shifts your mindset. Instead of focusing on everything else, you focus on what you really want—and that builds momentum.

A goal written down is a goal in motion. Write it. See it. Achieve it.

So, What’s Your Big Goal This Year?

Think about it for a second. What’s that one thing you’re truly passionate about? The goal that excites you, the one that keeps you up at night thinking about all the amazing possibilities?

Now, grab a pen, write it down, and put it in places where you can’t ignore it. I promise, this small step can make a huge difference in how quickly—and how effectively—you reach your goal.

Remember, mama, we can’t do everything, but we can do what matters. And when you keep your goals visible, you’ll find it way easier to carve out the time to make them happen.
