How To Give Freely | The Savvy Working Mom

When you feel like you have no time or money, it can be hard to give freely. Yet, when we give and do good, we feel good, and ultimately it all comes back to us. Here are a few ideas to help you give more freely.

Small Giving Is Great Giving

When you have no time or a limited budget it can feel like giving is hard to do, especially giving freely. Giving away your time, energy, or material things can be a challenge. Yet, when we give, we feel better. It does not matter if it is small or grandiose; it is giving and it is beautiful.

You can send a thank you card to your gardener or write a kind note to your kid’s teacher to show your appreciation for their impact in your kid’s life. Or if it is opening the door for the patron behind you at your favorite local coffee shop. Giving does not have to cost you a single dime. Just remember to give from your heart.

Perform Random Acts of Kindness

It is free. It is simple. It isn’t complicated. And, in the day and age that we currently live in, it is quite nice to perform random acts of kindness to feel connected to other human beings. Performing an act of kindness may be as easy as smiling at a stranger, paying for someone’s cup of coffee, holding the door, paying for the car behind you at a tollbooth, sending a kind letter to a loved one or a stranger, donating belongings your family no longer needs, the list is endless. Do whatever feels the most comfortable to you.

Be a Mentor

There are many mothers out there that are looking for guidance as a new mother, entrepreneur, etc. You may be a seasoned mother, why not take a new mother under your wing and guide her as best as you can. Maybe it is your co-worker who admires your work and wants to follow along in the same career path. And this doesn’t have to take a long time. It’s about being there, able to answer their questions and help provide them guidance when they need it.

Be Present

In everything you do – be present. Every second, minute, and hour, many things are thrown at us, and it can be easy to disconnect and do things and be places without actually being there. I have done it, and my friends have, we all have, especially when we are exhausted. But it is essential to show up in everything we do. Be there fully. The people around you will feel better, you will feel better, and it will all come back to you in a positive way.

Take Action

So, Mama, I challenge you to give freely. Pick one item from the list and begin practicing it today. In the beginning, it may be difficult as I know you have a long to-do list. However, when you start to give freely often, it will become a habit, a habit that’ll change your life in an extremely positive way.
