If you go through each day on autopilot, just checking the boxes on your to-do list one at a time, you’re not showing up as your best.
I want to share with you the first thing you have to do to be your best self.
You have to take care of yourself.
It’s that simple. You have to prioritize yourself because if you’re not taking care of yourself, you can never show up 100%.
If you’re winging it every day and you’re running on fumes…
✖️ you’re going to be a lame mom
✖️ you’re going to be mediocre at work
✖️ you’re going to be cranky around everyone
✖️ you’re not going to have the energy to want to do anything,
You’re just going through the motions and going through your day mindlessly never gives the same result as when you’re actually present, engaged, and involved.
When we take a moment for ourselves, we are often riddled with guilt that we could be doing something for our family or our work.
If you want to be your best self, you have to take care of yourself.
So I want you to take a moment to recognize that self-care for working moms isn’t selfish. I know you’ve heard it before, but I’ll keep on saying it: Self-care is not selfish.
I would argue that NOT taking care of yourself is selfish because you’re not able to be your best self. You show up as a half-assed version of yourself when you don’t make time for self-care and needs.
It’s so important for you to take care of yourself because when you do…
✨ your families are happier
✨ your place of work is more profitable
✨ your community gets better.
The world gets better when you take care of yourself.
Going through the motions never gives the same result as when you’re actually present, engaged, and involved.
Take Action
If you struggle with mom guilt and with this idea of taking time out of your day just for you, taking time to make sure that your needs are met and maybe even exceeded, then I want you to take some action right now.
Create an affirmation that you can say to yourself that will help you to remember how important it is for you to prioritize your own needs.
I’m going to give you three that work for me and I say these to myself regularly. I remind myself before I get on my Peloton. I remind myself of these things before I lay down and take a nap and before I take a lunch break.
I remind myself that:
💬 I deserve love.
💬 By taking care of myself, I take care of those around me.
💬 Taking the time to replenish my energy makes the world a better place.
Go ahead and write down whichever one of those resonated with you and start saying it to yourself regularly. Say them to yourself every time you take a moment. Say to yourself before you go to bed and say to yourself when you wake up in the morning
The world gets better when you are at your best and when you are giving 100% of who you are. I want to see the world as a better place and I want to see you happy full of joy and peace.
