How Do We Attract Healthy Relationships? | The Savvy Working Mom

Our relationships directly impact our happiness and ability to live a life we love. Relationships can determine how great of a mother and how awesome of a career woman you are. And so, the healthier your relationships, the better. Let’s look at a few ways you can attract healthy relationships into your life.

Be True To Who You Are

Be yourself. You are wonderful. Your gift to the world and what you have deep inside of you can only make the world better. So be true to who you are. When you’re true to who you are, you’re going to attract people who are attracted to that. You will attract people who want to be a part of who you are. So you’re never faking or having to put on a facade with folks, which is unhealthy.

Love Who You Are

You’re wonderful. So love who you are. When you love who you are, you will not tolerate anyone around you that doesn’t. Those who aren’t going to be able to love you aren’t going to come into your life or are going to come in then leave. So love who you are to attract healthy relationships.

Know What You Want

Know what you want from others, what you want for your kids, and what you want for your career. Knowing what you want helps you to attract healthy relationships that support those things that you want in your life. When you know what you want, you will not accept anything less in your space.

Know You Deserve to be Loved and Respected at all Times

There is no middle ground on this one. You deserve to be respected at all times, at work, at home, when you’re out on the street, etc. Set that level of expectation and respect, then be intentional to honor it. That is going to help you to attract healthy relationships into your life.

Offer Value Where You Can

Offer value for those relationships that come into your life to keep them healthy. It can’t only be about taking, offer value freely where you can, where you can help. Give a kind word of advice. Give a high five, be an ear to listen, and do something for someone wherever you can to bring value to their life.

Teach People How to Treat You

This tip is vital, and sometimes we forget because we’re doing this all the time. You teach people how you want to be treated every day by your actions, how you respond to them, and how you don’t respond physically, emotionally, and verbally. Therefore you must be intentional when you teach people how you want to be treated. For example, let’s think about work email. When it comes to email, you can teach people that you respond every hour on the hour by replying every hour on the hour, right? Then this is what they come to expect from you. And that actually might not be healthy. You can also teach people that you’re going to respond to them within 24 to 48 hours by responding 24 to 48 hours every time they email you. And when they reach out sooner, you can say, “Hey, you know, I’ve got a lot going on, and I batch my emails. If you sent it to me in the afternoon, I probably won’t get back to you until the next morning unless you wrote urgent in the subject line.” This way, you’re teaching people how they should treat you.

Accept People for Who They Are, then Decide if They Should be in Your Life

People are going to show up to you how they are and who they are; you must accept them for the person that they are. You, then, have to decide whether or not that’s the kind of person you want in your life. If it is welcome, accept them with open arms, add value to their lives, teach them how to treat you, and share the things you want. But if it’s not, if you see who they are and it’s not the kind of person that you want in your life, let them go. It’s okay. They’ll find other people. They’re not meant to be a part of your world, and that is alright.

Don’t Accept Less Than You Deserve

Draw another line in the sand and don’t accept less than you deserve. You know what you deserve. When you accept less than you deserve, you can feel it. You feel it inside of your gut because you feel like you’re compromising. Don’t accept that uneasy feeling. Instead, honor that feeling by loving yourself enough not to accept anything less than you deserve. When you do that, you’re going to continue to attract the things in your life that you do deserve, that you feel you do deserve, that value you for who you are, and you’re going to develop healthier relationships for it.

Take Action

Now it’s time to put into practice what you’ve absorbed. Notice it has a lot to do with you, with your mind, how you think, how you act, and how you treat others. Those are all the aspects that help you to attract healthy relationships into your life. The two essential tips to remember are to know that you deserve respect and love who you are because when you do that, you will not allow space in your life for those unhealthy and toxic relationships. So start implementing these two tips into your life today. Take a few moments to write down ten things you love about yourself. Keep this piece of paper with you as a reminder and read it weekly. When you love and respect yourself, you’re only going to allow others than love and respect you into your circle.
