We set goals every day, big and small. Sometimes it’s a goal to get through the day, and other times it’s to land a huge promotion or do something extraordinary for our kids. The ways that you set your goals matter. How you set your goals can be the difference between if you achieve them or not. Here are six great books to help you become more effective at setting goals and achieving them.

Carole Dewick is an American psychologist. Currently, she is a professor of psychology at Standford University. This book is a review of growth versus a fixed mindset and how a growth mindset can help you to achieve more. This book will help you to be happier and more at peace as well.

Creating Your Best Life by Caroline Miller, MAPP


Caroline Miller is an American executive coach and motivational speaker. This book is a fascinating read. It is about how goal accomplishment and happiness are connected, along with several goal-setting exercises.

Your Best Year Ever by Michael Hyatt


Michael Hyatt is an American author, podcaster, blogger, speaker, and former chairman and CEO of Thomas Nelson. He has written several books about leadership, planning, and goal setting. This book is super interesting. It’s a research-based book that helps you to figure out your purpose and set meaningful goals, write goals that are going to inspire you, and overall it’s a great read.

SMART Goals Made Simple by SJ. Scott


This book offers a practical system for how to set goals you can achieve. It’s one that a lot of folks are using and have used. Even if you don’t specifically use the smart system, the ideas, and the thoughts that he offers on why he set it up are interesting and very helpful as you think and plan.

Put Your Dream to the Test by John C. Maxwell

John C. Maxwell is an American author, speaker, and pastor who has written many books centering around leadership. This book is fascinating because it challenges you and your dreams. Can you achieve your dreams? This book has ten questions to help you answer just that.

Oh The Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss


I know it’s a little out of left field, but it is one of my favorite books. A reminder of the up and down path we take as we work towards our goals. It’s a great reminder of the fact that it is a journey to achieve your goals, but if you keep working, you will get them right.
